Abstract

A galvanostatic discharge of a battery is performed with a differential pulse measurement every 15 sec. The pulse duration is 10 ms. The differential measurement is proportional to the internal resistance of the battery.

Sample

Saline battery. Positive pole connected as working electrode. Auxiliary electrode short circuited with the counter electrode.

Settings - Experimental

E OUT connected to A/D IN

The sequence consists of the repetition of this method (which lasts 10 min). The repetition of the method is repeated several times without opening the circuitry.

Curve examination

1) Battery discharge test (Append) 00g.CRV
Display: Type = Normal X = Time Y1 = Potential diff. Y2 = Potential

This curve corresponds to the append of every Gal. Differential "differential pulse curves" generated during the experiment. One curve is generated per method. The append function handle the time so that the curves are saved upon the same real time scale. The decay in voltage corresponds to the increase of the differential measurement which is proportional to the internal resistance of the cell.

2) Battery discharge test (Extract) 00R.CRV
Display: Type = Normal X = Time Y1 = Potential Y2 = Current

This curve shows the first 50 seconds of the discharge with, every 15 seconds, the pulse used for the determination of the internal resistance of the battery.

Conclusion

The connection of the E output on the A/D IN input gives the possibility to show on the save figure the discharge of the battery on Y2 and the differential potential which represent the image of the internal resistance of the battery.
The Gal. Recurrent DP method can also be used to generate several recurrent pulses.
