“What do you use the TitraLab 55 for?”

“We use titration in order to determine the water content of used motor oil as the disposal cost of these types of oils depends on the amount of water they contain. This analysis enables us to decide whether the oil needs to be treated first in order to reduce its water content so that it can meet the acceptance criteria of the specialist disposal centres. The titrator is also used from time to time to analyse the water content of certain solvents.”

“What were your expectations regarding your new automatic Karl Fischer titrator?”

“We had already worked with an instrument of a different make but were dissatisfied with its performance in terms of accuracy and repeatability; it did not enable us to comply with ISO requirements. Moreover, our quality policy requires instruments to be checked periodically.

“We are perfectly satisfied. We were impressed by the initial training given
when the instrument was installed. It is so easy to use; we were operational straight away. We find the “ready to titrate” function extremely useful: the instrument is operational all the time and allows batches of samples to be analysed quickly.

Thanks to the built-in pump, reagents hardly need to be handled at all. There is virtually no maintenance; all we have to
do is clean the oil deposits off the electrode three times a month. We have complete confidence in the results we
obtain which comply perfectly with those of the waste disposal centres.

What’s more, the Good Laboratory Practice functions make it easy to supply the traceability documents required by
our quality system. And last but not least, the TitraLab 55 is not only functional, it also looks good.”
